Each year, the European Respiratory Society honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the respiratory field with a range of prestigious awards in addition to a number of grants and sponsorshipopportunities.

Gold Medals:

• ERS Gold Medal in COPD: ERS presents this award to recognise excellence in the field of COPD research. The ERS COPD Gold Medal grants € 50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of COPD and who is currently pursuing an active research project in COPD. Deadline: 28/02/2018


• ERS Gold Medal in Asthma: ERS presents this award to recognise excellence in the field of asthma research. The ERS Asthma Gold Medal grants € 50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of asthma and who is currently pursuing an active research project in asthma. Deadline: 28/02/2018


• ERS Gold Medal in ILD: ERS presents this award to recognise excellence in the field of ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease) research. The ERS ILD Gold Medal grants € 50,000 to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of ILD and who is currently pursuing an active research project in ILD. Deadline: 28/02/2018

Research Excellence:

• Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Lifetime Achievement Research Award: ERS presents this award to recognise excellence in the field of PAH research. The PAH Lifetime Achievement Research Award grants € 10,000 to a researcher who is taking part in a research project in the field of pulmonary arterial hypertension and who achieved advances and research in the field of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Deadline: 28/02/2018


• ERS Research Award: Innovation in Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria Science and Medicine: This Award of 10,000€, financially supported by Insmed, is offered to one awardee who is a researcher and pursuing an active research project in the NTM lung disease field. Deadline: 28/02/2018


• Romain Pauwels Research Award: Through the support of GlaxoSmithKline, the ERS offers an Award of €50,000 to encourage a new generation of lung scientists and to support young researchers in their quest to understand and treat respiratory illnesses. Deadline: 28/02/2018


• ERS Excellence Award for Research in Cystic Fibrosis: This research award of 7,500€, financially supported by Vertex, is awarded in recognition of research project in Cystic Fibrosis Science and Medicine. The award is exclusively reserved to scientists and clinicians. The award prize is to be used to further investigate in the area of CF. Deadline: 28/02/2018
